Since its first projects in 2010, IUCN SOS – Save Our Species project portfolio has grown to support 80 civil society organisations and government bodies in over 70 countries, implementing 140 projects to help save more than 300 threatened species from extinction.
Originally launched to support as many threatened species as possible, SOS refocused efforts to optimise return on investment for species and donors through thematic initiatives. SOS now offers donors the opportunity to support themed initiatives focusing on one or more specific groups of species that are of particular conservation concern.
Such initiatives represent a valuable opportunity to transform conservation prospects for important species or groups of species by channelling resources through SOS to address a specific set of needs. SOS is continuously working to develop additional initiatives to achieve even greater conservation impact.
